The body of a Leighton Township man who had been reported missing Nov. 21 was found near the lakeshore in Park Township, Ottawa County.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said Ottawa County deputies found the body of Avel T. Martinez near Riley Street and Lakeshore Avenue and they suspect his death was the result of suicide. Authorities had located his car near Riley Street and Lakeshore Avenue one day after he was reported missing by his spouse.

His spouse stated that he had been depressed recently. An extensive search of the area was conducted by deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue Teams, as well as area fire department personnel.
