Moline native Gary VanDenBerg dies at 81 in Florida

Gary A. VanDenBerg, age 81, died Tuesday, April 25, after a short battle with cancer in Brooksville, FL.
He was born on May 26, 1935, in Moline, and was was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. He was in the HVAC business for more than 55 years and was the co-founder of HS/BuyVan Associates. Gary also was a member of the Elks Lodge #274 and the Muskegon Chapter of Ambucs.
He is survived by his wife, Carol VanDenBerg; children, Sandra (Roger) Wiersma, Sheryl VanDenBerg, Garry (Shelly) VanDenBerg, Geoffrey VanDenBerg, William (Jill) Carson, Robert (Melissa) Carson; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwayne “Duke” (Ruth) VanDenBerg and Al (Brenda) VanDenBerg.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sharon.
A memorial service  will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100), with visitation an hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Guiding Light Mission or the charity of your choice.
