Doris L. Schmidtman, age 94, died Sunday, April 23, at Grand Brook Memory Care in Wyoming, MI.
She was born on Dec. 7, 1928, in Monterey Township, along with her identical twin sister, Dorothy, to George and Grace (Gates) Krause. Doris married Richard V. Schmidtman on April 5, 1952, in Diamond Springs. She was a graduate of Allegan High School in 1947 and had a long career with the Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General in Chicago before retiring in 1984.
Doris was an avid reader and animal lover, and she especially enjoyed living in the country surrounded by pets of all shapes and sizes, often rescuing them from shelters or other organizations.
She is survived by her children, Vicki Myers and Michele Eisele, and grandson, Zachary Myers, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a son, Craig; son-in-law, Kurt Myers; three brothers, Jack, Lee, and Lyle; and three sisters, Dorothy, Goldie, and Lillian.
In accordance with her wishes, a simple cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions in Doris’ memory may be made to the ASPCA, Hooved Animal Humane Society (Woodstock, IL), Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
