Most Wildcat harriers run personal bests at Allegan

Most of these Wildcat ladies’ cross-country runners ran their personal best 5K times at Allegan.

Wayland High School cross-country coach Nikki Hoogewind announced that most of her runners Saturday morning recorded their career 5K best times in the Allegan Invitational at the County Fairgrounds.

While the guys collectively placed seventh in the competition, the big news was that sophomore Abree VanDenBrink broke the 20-minute barrier for the 5,000-meter race for the second time this season. She placed seventh individually with a time of 19:47.36.

The races were split into two different divisions. In the Division 1 women’s contest, which also included VanDenBrink. Wildcat freshman Madison Bumhoffer, was 12th, 20:27.54 and senior Ryleigh Haveman 25th. In Division II, sophomore Sophia Miller was17th in 23:19.87; junior Marissa Ainsworth, 22nd, 23:48.28; Ashlee Seesaw, 32nd, Crystal Costa, 36th.

Junior Mason Fein, led the boys’ squad in 13th place in 17:05.55; senior Ethan Manning was 19th in 17:26.96; freshman Carter Bultje, 27th; junior Jackson Byers, 28th; freshman Shayne Krasinski, 29th; senior Marsella Azzarella, 31st and sophomore Kyan Lawrence, 32nd.
