A motorcyclist who failed to stop at a stop sign at 135th Avenue and 18th Street in Hopkins Township was killed in a traffic crash Friday afternoon.
The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified by authorities, but is believed to be in his fifties, crashed into an SUV that earlier had stopped at the corner.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies said they were summoned to the scene near the Hilliards Corner Lounge just before 3 p.m. Authorities said the motorcycle did not stop at the intersection and the SUV was traveling east from 135th, where deputies say it came to a complete stop before turning north onto 18th Street.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after unsuccessful life saving efforts were made by an off-duty paramedic.
There were no reports of anyone injured in the SUV.
No one in the SUV was injured.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area while cleanup was initiated.
