Riley James Campbell, 28, of Portage, has died of injuries he suffered last weekend in a motorcycle crash east of Martin in Orangeville Township.

Authorities with the Barry County Sheriff’s office said Campbell was heading east on 9 Mile Road when he lost control of his motorcycle near Marsh Road Saturday evening. His motorcycle left the road, Campbell was thrown from the bike and hit a tree.

Campbell reportedly was unresponsive when first responders arrived and started CPR. A medical helicopter flew him to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said Campbell wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and alcohol appears to have played a role in the incident.
