Jack D. Sage of Dorr died Friday, April 8. He was 77.

Born Aug. 18, 1944, to Helen and Ken Sage in Marshall, he was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where he married his wife of nearly 55 years, Janet Sage (Fifelski). The two met while attending Western Michigan University.

Upon graduation, Jack joined the United States Army and was stationed state-side and in Korea. He achieved the rank of captain in the Military Police Corps while in Kansas. After his time in the military, Jack attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where he earned his law degree, later practicing law in Wichita for 10 years.

In 1982, Jack and Janet moved their brood of five children back to Dorr to be closer to family. Jack became a partner at the Varnum Law Firm in Grand Rapids, working there for 40 years as a renowned expert in oil and gas law.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Sage (Fifelski); brother, Kenneth (Mary Jean) Sage; and mother-in-law, Lucy Fifelski. He also will be remembered by his children Camille (Brett) DeLano, Clarice Sage (Brenda O’Hara), Nicholas Sage (Catherine Price), Corinne (Richard) Shafer, Fran (Dion) Sage-King; and his adoring grandchildren Casey, Lucy, Jude, Alice, and Piper.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Helen Sage; and sister, Joyce Huey.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th St., Dorr. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 – 136th Ave., Dorr. Jack will be laid to rest at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery following the mass. There will be a luncheon at St. Stanislaus parish hall following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Jack, contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School Eagle Fund or Saint Basil Catholic School Scholarship Fund.
