Northeastern Allegan County and much of West Michigan was hit with strong winds Friday, knocking out power and bringing down trees and power lines to create a power outage of three hours to these parts.

High winds, which were in effect through 8 p.m. with gusts ranging from 40 to 60 mph caused power outage numbers to climb steadily through the day. The Wayland area lost power at about 12:30 p.m. It was reported that Allegan County had nearly 9,500 outages, including a large portion of the City of Wayland and Dorr and Leighton townships.
The nastiest winds, according to the National Weather Service, were 71 mph in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area.
