Ingrid Miller15497252-smallIngrid Borreson Miller, urban planning and historic preservation specialist in the Greater Boston (Mass.) area, has been hired as Wayland’s new Main Street manager and DDA coordinator.

City Manager Mike Selden told the City Council the Downtown Development Authority held interviews for five finalists, reduced the number to two and finally offered the job to Miller, who has roots in West Michigan.

Originally from East Grand Rapids, she earned her bachelor of science degree from Kendall College of Art and Design. She later received master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Colorado at Denver.

While in Colorado, she was a graduate teaching assistant at the university and a research assistant before taking a post in historic preservation at the City of Boulder. She has been an urban studio assistant at Sasaki Associates since July 2013.

In her latest position, she has been responsible for promoting company-wide cultural resource endeavors, including social responsibility, historic preservation planning and advocacy, managing internal library and advising archival resource management, overseeing the Gallery at Sasaki; and coordinating multiple committees, calendars and event logistics.

Miller will return to the West Michigan and begin working for Wayland Main Street on May 4.

She succeeds Sara Najar, who resigned earlier this year to attend graduate school after serving in the post since last August.

“I think she’ll be a good asset,” Selden told the City Council Monday night. “She’s got a lot of downtown planning experience.”

City Councilman Rick Mathis added, “I met the new Main Street manager last week, and I think she will serve this city well.”
