No.1 Chinese RestaurantThe No. 1 Chinese Restaurant in downtown Wayland has new owners, but they have declined to be identified.

The new owners started at the restaurant today, but when asked who they are, they replied that they don’t want any newspaper publicity. They also claimed to be too busy at 3 p.m. to talk talk to a reporter.

The news of the ownership change was presented on Facebook by longtime loyal customer Brenda Baker, who posted:

“This is a sad day for me. I just found out that the owners of No. 1 Chinese restaurant in Wayland, have sold their business and the new owners are starting to take over today with the assistance of Alice and her husband.

“That was really strange when a woman, not Alice, answered the phone. I gave Alice and her husband hugs goodbye, took my lunch and came back to the office and feel like crying.

“I’m going to give the new owners a chance, but all I can say is they better learn my name and phone number fast. I’ve been used to Alice always greeting me with a ‘Hello Brenda’ before I even said a word for about ten years now.”

No. 1 was Wayland’s first Chinese restaurant. It is located at 201 Pine St., across the street from Pine Street Elementary and in the building that formerly housed Harding’s Market.
