
Donald Nicholas Mead Jr., of Dorr died Wednesday, April 9. He was 76.
Don enjoyed woodworking, antique tractors, his 1966 Mustang, and especially spending time with his family. He served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 101st airborne division during the Vietnam War. For his military service, he received two Purple Hearts and was to receive a Bronze Star.
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jacqualine R. Mead; children Donald N. Mead III, Gretchen M. Mead, Hillary J. Mead, Heidi L. (Brian) Bedwell; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings Larry J. Mead, Loraine K. Payne; brothers- and sisters-in-law Jerry R. (Karol) Veit, JoAnne R. Painter, Judith R. (Russell) Brittain, John R. Veit, Jeffery R. (Julie) Veit, Joseph R. (Tina) Veit; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by siblings Virginia Schmidt, Rosemary Hoffman, Martha M. (Jim) O’Brien; brothers-in-law James R. Veit, Virgil Payne; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mead; and parents Donald N. Sr. and Elsie L. Elliott.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Don will be laid to rest in the family plot at Union Cemetery, Blanchard, MI, with military honors at a later date.
