The 146th Avenue overpass on U.S.-131 near Dorr has been struck yet again.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies said a semi-truck carrying a heavy backhoe hit the bridge at that site on U.S.-131 Monday, just before 6 p.m. Authorities said the semi was headed south with the machinery when it hit the 146th Avenue overpass.
No one was injured in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
The southbound lanes of US-131 were closed from 100th Street to 142nd Avenue, but the expresway stretch was reopended later that evening.
The 146th Avenue bridge was struck last August by a semi-truck thought to be too tall for the overpass. The was closed for a spell so the beams could be replaced. Traffic was still continuing underneath on US-131 while crews cut out damaged beams, part of the bridge deck and a concrete barrier wall before the highway could reopen.
The 100th Street bridge just a few miles to the north was hit by trucks several times in 2018, prompting MDOT to increase its clearance by about two feet. The new bridge opened in 2020.
