Though there is no federal or state-wide election happening this year in northeast Allegan County, there will be some local issues and races to be decided Nov. 4. Here is a breakdown of who will be voting, and what will be on the ballot.
• City of Wayland – Three city council seats will be up for grabs that Tuesday. Incumbents Steven Stepek, and Megan Mickelson will be on the ballot, as will challengers Abe Garcia and Aubrey Chubb. City Councilwoman Grace Sefranek will not be seeking re-election.
• Hopkins Township – Voters will decide on a request for a one-mill increase for road improvements. The increase will be levied for four years, and will raise an estimated $125,406.66 in the first year.
• Parts of Leighton and Wayland Townships – Electors who reside in the Caledonia or Thornapple Kellogg school districts will vote on a millage request for the Kent Intermediate School District. The one big change for this election is that the polling location in Wayland Township will change to the Leighton Township Hall.
• Dorr Township & Martin Township – Residents will have a “bye” for this election. No election for them on Nov. 4.
Leighton & Wayland Townships – Voters in the Wayland Union School District will also have a “bye” for the election on November 4.
There will be no early voting for these elections. Those eligible electors who are on a permanent absentee ballot list should have received their absentee ballot in the mail. Electors wishing to vote absentee can request an absentee ballot be mailed to them from their local clerk’s office.
