
Wayland City Manager Erik Wilson Monday evening announced that an open house on the. Next street project will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday Dec. 15, at City Hall.
Next year’s local reconstruction and paving project will be for Lorene and Locust streets in the city.
Wilson said plans will be discussed, including sidewalks.
The public will be invited to take part and ask questions.
In other business at Monday night’s meeting, the City Council:
- Re-elected Joe Kramer as mayor pro tem, the second highest post behind the mayor.
- Welcomed the volunteer statement of returning Councilman Abe Garcia to serve as the council liaison ex-officio on the Planning Commission. Garcia at one time was a Planning Commission member and was the city’s liaison when he won a council seat.
- Officially agreed to the consolidation of two voting precincts back into just one, at the fire station on West Superior Street.
- Noted the evaluation of City Manager Erik Wilson will begin next month. Wilson was hired in October 2024, succeeding Josh Eggleston, who is manager of Zeeland Township.
- Was reminded by Kramer that leaves are being picked up by city crews, but they should be kept away from the streets and sidewalks.
- Was told by Fire Chief Jon Timmers that the Gun Lake Casino has made a $5,000 gift to the department for purchase of rescue hand held equipment.
- Received a verbal invitational from Mayor Antel to join her in taking part in the annual Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 6, at a 11 a.m.
