Retired Major John John “Jack” McEnaney, who lived at Gun Lake for 44 years, died Nov. 9. He was 84.

A retired Air Force and American Airlines pilot, Jack was owner of Gun Lake Photo for more than 35 years and was co-author of “Gun Lake Revisited” with Connie Foreman and Gayle McEnaney, who told the story about how Gun Lake got its name. “There was a battle between the Ottawas and Pottawatomis, who fought with guns, obtained by trading furs with white men. When peace was declared, the victorious chief ordered that the guns be gathered and thrown into the lake.”

He was born in Lansing in 1936 and had lived at Gun Lake for 44 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gayle; his daughter, Courtney (Paul) Hamlin; son, John (Angela) McEnaney; son, Sean McEnaney. Grandkids, Kirklin, Caitlin, Brittin, Ashlin, Kegan, Laurel. Great grandson, Easton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew in 1983.

Cremation has taken place. Private memorial for family only. Internment at Orangeville cemetery.
