Pine Street Elementary fifth-grader Emmett Katje came in first place, competing against fourth- through eighth-graders from across Allegan County in a spelling bee.

Wayland Middle School and Pine Street students who participated in the Allegan County Spelling Bee Tuesday were Logan Bush, Amara Shaffer, Mackenzie Schwartz, Lorelei Miller, AJ Winters and Emmett Katje.
Katje will now move on to compete at the regional bee in Grand Rapids in March.
Congratulations to Emmett Katje!
A word of advice to the young winner-browse the spice shelf. “Marjoram” tripped up our son in an early round of the regional bee (many years ago).
