The Wayland City Planning Commission Tuesday evening approved a rezoning request from Award Enterprises for a parcel on the southern edge of town on 133rd Avenue.

Award Enterprises, which plans to buy the site from the City of Wayland for about $150,000, was seeking rezoning from I-1 light industrial to RM multi-family residential to accommodate development of a residential subdivision.

City Manager Josh Eggleston acknowledged, “There are some hindrances to industrial development” at the parcel, located at 1065 133rd Ave., just south of residential development near Wayland High School and the athletic complexes.

The Plan Commission noted the planned residential project is adjacent to others and it includes a buffer for wetlands.

The recommendation now will be sent to the City Council for final approval, which could be determined as early as next Monday night, Oct. 18.

Can we get some clarification about the location? Based on what I've looked up, this address is for land closer to Great Lakes Energy than the high school.
