The Wayland City Planning Commission Tuesday evening approved a rezoning request from Award Enterprises for a parcel on the southern edge of town on 133^rd Avenue.

Award Enterprises, which plans to buy the site from the City of Wayland for about $150,000, was seeking rezoning from I-1 light industrial to RM multi-family residential to accommodate development of a residential subdivision.

City Manager Josh Eggleston acknowledged, “There are some hindrances to industrial development” at the parcel, located at 1065 133^rd Ave., just south of residential development near Wayland High School and the athletic complexes.

The Plan Commission noted the planned residential project is adjacent to others and it includes a buffer for wetlands.

The recommendation now will be sent to the City Council for final approval, which could be determined as early as next Monday night, Oct. 18.
