A traffic chase Monday afternoon ultimately led to a three-vehicle crash in Watson Township.
Deputies from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department said they attempted to stop a motorist for a traffic violation on M-89 near 24th Street in Trowbridge Township when the driver fled north on 24th Street.
The fleeing motorist was critically injured in the crash, which occurred on M-222. The other drivers involved in the incident had non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition
An accident-reconstruction team from the Michigan State Police is investigating the crash.
Allegan police, State Police, Life EMS paramedics, Wayland Emergency Medical Services paramedics, West Michigan Air Care and Allegan and Hopkins firefighters assisted at the scene.
