Customers of Consumers Energy have been told to expect a power outage from 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, through 7 a.m. Thursday, April 9, in areas near U.S.-131 south of Wayland.
Consumers officials said about 3,300 residents south of Wayland to just north of 120th Avenue in Allegan County will be affected. The officials indicated equipment upgrades to improve electric service reliability will be performed.
Steve Herrygers, senior executive director of high voltage distribution, told MLive, “We know reliable electricity is essential to our customers, and outages are only scheduled when this critical work can’t be completed any other way. Our crews are coordinating closely with ITC to carry out these upgrades safely and efficiently, and we thank customers for their understanding as we work together to secure the electric grid.”
The area’s residents have been notified via postcards. They are urged to sign up for outage alerts at ConsumersEnergy.com/alerts to receive updates about the scheduled work and any potential changes.
Infrastructure upgrades typically are scheduled during overnight hours when many people are sleeping to reduce disruptions to businesses and daily activities. If the work cannot be completed as planned, a backup date is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
