A North Carolina woman charged in the traffic crash death of Alexis Danielle Brown-Johnson, 15, in Wayland Township last March has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in August.

Alyssa Kay Stark, 20, of Mebane, N.C., who was living in Grand Rapids at the time of the March 19 incident, has been with operating while intoxicated by drugs causing death and operating while intoxicated by drugs causing serious injury. She has pleaded innocent to both charges.

Her preliminary hearing in Allegan County Distroict Court has been slated for 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, before Judge Joseph S. Skocelas. Authorities hope to present enough evidence to  to show the case should continue for binding over the Circuit Court.

Police have alleged that Stark was driving a car that went off southbound U.S.-131 and flipped over on 12th Street which runs parallel to the expressway. Brown-Johnson was riding in the back not wearing a seat belt, and was thrown from the car and killed. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash.
