A Plainwell area man was killed in a traffic crash Wednesday evening on 106th Avenue just south of Martin.

Allegan County Sheriff’s authorities said they overheard radio traffic from Allegan County Central Dispatch that a Jeep Wrangler was on its side, off of the roadway and that there was no one located inside.  Further radio traffic indicated that the driver had been located a short distance from the Jeep and it appeared as if he had been ejected from the Jeep during the crash.

Deputies located victim, Robert Lee Webb, 44,  of the Plainwell area, lying on the ground with obvious injuries from the crash.  He was transported from the scene to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo where died as a result of the injuries.

Investigation revealed that Webb had been traveling west on 106th Avenue in Otsego Township just after 9 p.m. and  lost control of his Jeep after he crested a hill and it went off of the roadway where it overturned about 1 ½ times. Webb was ejected.

There were no signs that alcohol was a factor in the crash, but speed was believed to be the contributing factor.

Plainwell Area EMS, Otsego Township Fire Department, and the Otsego Police Department assisted with the crash.
