Suspects sought in stolen vehicle, traffic crash
Troopers from the Wayland post of the Michigan State Police and deputies from the Barry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at M-37 and 108th Street in Thornapple Township, Barry County at about 4 p.m. Thursday.
A short time prior to the crash a stolen vehicle complaint was made to Barry County Central Dispatch. Officers responding to the stolen vehicle complaint were diverted to the crash and discovered one of the vehicles involved, a black Jeep Cherokee, had just been reported as stolen.
During the investigation troopers learned the Jeep was traveling north on M-37 and failed to yield when it turned left in front of a southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle was injured in the crash. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot while being followed by witnesses.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was picked up by another vehicle and left the scene. A third vehicle, not involved in the crash, also was abandoned at the scene and it was found to have been reported stolen to the Wyoming Police Department. The occupants of the third vehicle were picked by a fourth vehicle and fled the scene.
