Ranger Rick: A common sense explanation of building a wall

Ranger Rick Art_7_0_0The idea of constructing a wall between the U.S. and Mexico is either cheered or jeered, depending mostly on your political affiliation and feelings toward illegal immigration.

The vast majority of American citizen’s favors legal immigration but detests illegals entering the country and the cause is failure of the Obama administration to enforce immigration laws on the books. Walls that work and have worked for quite a while are the 38th parallel in Korea, the Israeli border, and the Saudi-Iraqi boundary. Regardless where you feel about the situation, let’s examine a famous wall – Hadrian’s Wall in northern England.

Hadrian’s Wall was constructed nearly 1900 years ago. Roman Emperor Hadrian ordered construction of an 80-mile, 20-foot wall to protect Romans from Scottish tribes to the north. Since the tribes did not want to assimilate into Roman culture and Rome’s resources were taxed and finite, they didn’t want to spend more on wars (or walls), but felt walls were a cheaper alternative and also gave their soldiers in the remote outpost something to do besides repelling invaders. It kept the Scottish tribes to the north but also as important, kept Romans to the south.

Roman history indicates Rome worked when foreigners crossed through its borders to become Romans. It failed when newcomers fled into the empire and adhered to their own cultures, which were at odds with the Roman ones they had chosen. Strange isn’t it, Mexicans and others south of the border (maybe even ISIS or ISIL or whatever they are calling it now) want to come here, but some don’t want to assimilate into American culture, speaking English, or obeying the laws we all live under.

Will the wall be built? Who knows? Will it work if built, it would certainly be better than an open border with law enforcement being told by the Obama administration essentially to look the other way. If they are arrested for illegally entering the country (as they should be), they are denoted as illegally entering the United States then released with a court date given to review their case. Then they slowly melt into the population and are never seen unless arrested again.

In the areas where a wall was built (such as San Diego), the level of illegal entry is nil. To enter the United States illegally, the drug cartel constructed tunnels up to one mile long into a house or industrial building so the illegals entering through the tunnel dispersed once on the U.S. side. With that system detected and ceased, the cartel goes to easier places to enter, like Arizona, New Mexico and especially Texas. Lately, the flood of illegals across the Texas border has multiplied exponentially.

President Obama and his administration’s policies — to not deport or prosecute illegals entering the country, and to permit welfare and subsistence allowances like citizens enjoy — only further burdens the safety net and American taxpayer. Access for those wishing to do harm instead of coming for opportunity — ISIS, ISIL infiltrators — could blend in with the human migration north and enter the country. The Democrat solution is to essentially ignore the situation and keep the open borders. Does this make sense to you?

Donald Trump provides a clear and no-nonsense solution – build the wall, engage illegals and deport them, stop the immigration of Muslims temporarily until completely vetted, and untie the hands of the FBI, CIA and Immigration to do their jobs. A president that will back up actions in performance of duty will be much appreciated after 7 ½ years of Obama policies.

We are in a perilous time, similar to Rome. We have people coming into America with no idea to assimilate into our culture and customs, learn the language, or abide by our rules and laws. Rome survived for a short time under these conditions. We are where Rome was and will experience what Rome went through during their declining years unless we wake up and stop and deport illegals.

We need immigration – legal and safe immigration. America has always welcomed legal immigration as we should and will in the future. We certainly need changes.

Your vote in November will determine what direction this country will go – continue down the road to perdition with the Democrats (and Remocrats – RINO’s (Republican in name only) or finally see the light and enact and enforce common-sense solutions forwarded by Donald Trump.

It’s up to you.

The rotting of America from within continues under Obama and Clinton…
