I was reading an article today (Monday, Jan. 14) about the caldera under Yellowstone and the uprising of magma slowly coming to the surface. Evidently, there have been more and more geysers being created and of the known ones, they are more active than ever. So does that mean the caldera is about to blow? Nobody knows for sure, but the activity might mean something.

The 465-mile long piece of molten rock rising below the Yellowstone caldera, the super volcano has erupted three times before, 2.1 million years ago, 1.2 million years ago and 640,000 years ago. Scientists say the Yellowstone magna chamber which sits on top of the magna plume, is slowly rising each year.

Hopefully nothing will happen for a very long time, but experts assure us a full-blown eruption will take place one day, and when it does it could potentially create a global volcanic winter, making growing crops almost impossible and cause horrific global famines.

Dr. Christopher Kiburn says of an eruption; “As a result of which, the amount of sunlight reaching the surface of the earth drops and, as a consequence of that , it will trigger what is called a volcanic winter in that the temperatures never get a chance to recover. So you go through winter, the ash veil prevents the sun from warming up the earth seasonally so you just get continued winters which might trigger, ultimately, extensive ice coverage.”

Your life would never be the same again from that moment on, that is, if you survive.

We are talking about hundreds of cubic miles of ash, rock and lava that would be blasted into the atmosphere, plunging the northern hemisphere into a few days of complete darkness. Everything within 100 miles of Yellowstone would be killed. It has been estimated all people living within 600 miles of Yellowstone eventually would be killed. Approximately 10 feet of volcanic ash would be dumped up to 1,000 miles away. Enough about the bad news.

But there has been signs of increased activity at Yellowstone. But that doesn’t mean an eruption is imminent, but should be a cause for concern.

In other parts of the country and globe there has been increased earthquake activity, in California and Alaska. In other countries, there have been volcanos activating that have been dormant for some time. Times they are a changing. Earth has been in constant change since creation, and it certainly doesn’t look like anything will be different in the future.

So for you “snowflakes” out there worrying about politically correct speech, and angry at your parents; you better toughen up. There won’t be any shoulders to cry on, no support groups, and you’ll have to use skill and cunning to survive. For all those of you who hate people who can survive on their own and don’t ask for help, maybe you better start sucking it up and get your priorities in order.

On the flip side, if an eruption of the magnitude predicted happens, you wouldn’t have to worry about those student loans (like you were going to pay them anyway!), car loan payments, or the monthly mortgage! See, there is a silver lining, even in bad times!

Your little problems aren’t so large now are they, when Armageddon could happen at any time! Glad I could cheer you up! 🙂

If it does happen nothing we can do about it anyway. The only positive side is Donald can declare an emergency or crisis with out making one up.

Ranger Rick Another excellent thought provoking article. Of course, how many ( besides myself) actually believe in events such as this ever happening.? The wonderful thing about this is there is no solution. Again events without possible solutions are never taken seriously. I'm really curious what other if any responses this article will get?? The amount of we who gather at our monthly meeting wearing our "tin foil" hats, hopefully will increase. Thanks again for a very interesting article
