Retired State Police official, fire marshal Tom Spaman dies at 66

Tom graduated from Allegan High School and Kuyper College. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
For 41 years he served the people of the State of Michigan, first as a Michigan State Police Trooper at the Niles and Wayland posts, and later as a Detective Sergeant in the State Police Fire Marshal Division, retiring in 1997. He then worked for the State of Michigan Bureau of Fire Services as a fire marshal inspector, retiring in March of this year.
He loved the outdoors, his family and his God.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; his children, Holly Spaman, Timothy and Dana Spaman, Jennifer and Max McDonald; and his grandchildren, Gweneth, Moses, Reed, and Grace; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jane Spaman, Mary and Neil VanRegenmorter, Sally Bulthuis, George and Trudy Bulthuis, Gayle and Ron Byker; dear family friend, Jane Rademacher; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Maxine; and his brothers, Kenneth and William.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St., Cutlerville. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, in Corinth Reformed Church, 129 – 100th St. SE, with Rev. James DeZeeuw officiating. Interment in Hooker Cemetery.
