Robert Wenzel dies at 65 of congestive heart failure

Robert Wenzel of Wayland died Sunday night, Sept. 5, in his sleep after battling congestive heart failure for the past few years. He was 65.

He was born in Midland on July 18, 1956, and was the son of Walter and Mary Lou (Blake) Wenzel.  Bob graduated from Wayland Union High School in 1975 and worked at the family business, Wenzel Hardware in Wayland, for many years.

Having grown up in the hardware business, Bob was extremely knowledgeable of how things worked.  He later worked for Gemmens Hardware and Lowes.  Bob married Lisa Schroeder in 1985 and though they later divorced, they had two wonderful children and remained good friends.

Bob is survived by his children, Jared (Ashley) Wenzel and Jenna (Keith) Siple, five grandsons (Gage, Maddox, and Jack Wenzel, Levi and Logan Siple).  His mother, Mary Lou Wenzel, sister, Leanna (Jim) Rollins, nephews Brendan and Mason Rollins, and special friend, Joy Hayes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wenzel.  Per Bob’s wishes, cremation has occurred, and a private celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks.
