Santino DiCesare returns to WHS as athletic director

Santino Di Cesare, a 2010 graduate of Wayland High School, is returning to his alma mater as the new athletic director and assistant principal (ninth grade.

Di Cesare previously was employed with Oakridge Public Schools near Muskegon as athletic director for the middle and high school. Prior to serving at Oakridge, Santino he was at Potter’s House High School and Middle School in Wyoming, Michigan where he served as athletic director for grades 7-12

Santino has also worked in collegiate athletics at Hope College in multiple capacities. He was an all-conference defensive back for the Flying Dutchmen infootball, for which he lettered in all four years and he was an NCAA Division 3 All-American selection.

Di Cesare received a bachelor’s degree in athletic administration from Hope College, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.

Di Cesare will get acclimated to the high school part-time beginning the week of April 9, splitting his time between Oakridge and WUHS. He begins full-time April 23.

Di Cesare is replacing former Athletic Director/Assstant Principal, Justin Wilson, who led the Wayland Athletics Program for four years.  Wilson announced in early March he was taking a position as principal of Ravenna High School.

Superintendent Norm Taylor said, “We are excited to welcome Mr. Di Cesare to our staff and we’re looking forward to seeing his leadership and connection with our community here at Wayland.”
