Carl Graham Thompson, 89, of Hopkins, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Green Acres of Wayland.

Born Nov. 4, 1932 in Montgomery, NC, Carl was the son of the late Julius and Pauline (Morris) Thompson and was the devoted husband of the late Marlene Joyce (Adrianse) Thompson. He was a long-time member of Heritage Baptist Church in Kentwood.

Carl was truly a family man. He was a devoted husband who never left his wife to navigate life without him by her side. Carl’s gentle nature afforded him the unique ability to allow each of his children to believe that they were his favorite without the others knowing. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he took great pride in ensuring that he was the first to give each child their first taste of ice cream.

Carl will be fondly remembered as a faithful, gentle man who was true to his word.

He is survived by his children, Pamela (Danny) Kisner, Randy (Robin) Thompson and Daniel Thompson; siblings, Peggy (Williford) Faile, Johnny (Anne) Thompson and Robert (LaDonna) Thompson; grandchildren, Kimberly (Ron) Evink, Timothy (Stephanie) Kisner, Randi (Dan) Knap, Michael Kisner, Dianna Kisner, Rob (Cara) Thompson and Rick (Lindsae) Thompson; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jerry (Marlene) Thompson and Katie (Norman) White.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 28, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. A funeral will begin at noon. Carl will be laid to rest beside his beloved Marlene in Maplewood Cemetery privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 625 Kenmoor Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
