Marilyn Lagendyk died Sunday, June 8.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home (Dorr Chapel), 4330 18th St. Dorr.
Marilyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a renowned garage sale “thrifter,” genuine artist, and a friend to many. Her yard and home were her landscape and art studio where she cultivated flowers and collected many “objets d’art”. She was a good worker, always had a job, and often drew comic strips featuring her bosses and coworkers.
She created fabulous yard displays featuring dressy ladies, outhouses, and Santa Claus. When Halloween came around, there were always many scary characters, such as the headless horseman, cowboy gunfighters, hangings, and spooky ghouls (sometimes featured in the local newspaper). She was an independent person who lived a busy life on her own terms and cultivated many friendships over the years.
Marilyn was born on Nov. 16, 1934, the daughter of Dan and Gertrude (Wallace) Smith in Luther, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Don and Vesta, Boone and Anabel, and Larry and Kasey Smith. Marilyn was married to her soul mate, Richard Lagendyk, for 37 years, until his death in 2003, and goes to join him at last.
She is survived by her sons, Randall and Richard; daughter, Tammy; nine grandchildren Douglas and Shannon Lagendyk, Aaron Lagendyk, Katherine Lagendyk, Angelique and William Denvir, Nicole and Andrew Roy, Travis and Shannon Shoemaker, Evan and Carli Lagendyk, Alexandra and Jaycob Chapman, Cameron Lagendyk; six great-grandchildren Allyson and Tyler Hendon, Nicholas Lagendyk, Maxim Roy, Roman Lagendyk, Emberly and Cain Chapman; two great-great-grandchildren Jasper and Sebastian Hendon; sisters Celia Eastlund and Virginia Seegers; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the Wings Home (www.wingshome.org).
