Nancy Lee Hess of Hopkins died Jan. 4 at Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was 86 years old.

Nancy was born in Grand Rapids,met her husband, Harry Hess, in California and moved to his home state New Jersey, where they married and resided for 14 years, until returning to Michigan and buying their home on Judd Street in Wyoming. She spent her last 23 years in Hopkins.

Nancy loved costumer service and working hard. She spent many years as a third shift waitress at Howard Johnsons East on 28th Street and carried her dedicated work ethic to Target, where she retired after 15 years. She always held a young spirit and had enough spunk to light up a room.

She is survived by her daughters, Anna and Ken VanDyke, Harriet and Kurt Hoffman; grandchildren: Cristina Kaufman, Noreen and Paul Freudinger, Tracy and David Lowe, Jimmy Compton, Kristen Travis, Jamie and Mike Ewasko, Chad and Nicole Sinke, Ashley and Shane Zeinstra, Kevin VanDyke, Kim and Mike Patridge. Great-grandchildren: Scott and Patricia Compton, Christopher Compton, Athena Travis, Hunter Travis, Averi Travis, Anthony Terpstra, Benjamin Terpstra, Michael Ewasko, Matthew Ewasko, Alexandra Since, Braelyn Sinke, Chloe Sinke. Great Great Grandchildren: Honor Compton, Lyric Compton. And several devoted cousins.

She was preceded in deathby her husband, Harry, and son, David.

Memorial Service will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. April 16 in Hopkins, at Hopkins Community Church.
