Mary Lorraine Sager, age 97, of Wayland, died at Mercy Health, Grand Rapids, on Friday, Jan. 8, due to complications from Covid-19.

Lorraine was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, neighbor, and friend. For many years, Lorraine was a local restaurant cook and had many regular patrons due to the delicious meals she prepared.

Lorraine thoroughly enjoyed working at Wayland High School for 27 years and always held many fond memories of interactions with staff and students.

She is survived by her children Joycelin (Gary) Denstone, John (Joylyn Culver) Sager, Janice (Shawn Rumsey) Sager, and Jim Sager; grandchildren Amanda (Nick) Velting, Allison (Brad) Mulder, Andrew Sager, and Samantha Sager; great-grandchildren Henrik Velting and Vivian June Mulder; nieces Patricia Slomski-Shurtz, Sonya (Norman) Pence, Carol (Morris) Coville, Kelly Larson; nephews Jack Kopacz, Michael Schabel, Patrick Schabel; sister-in-law, Nora Beardsley; and many wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by June, her husband of 61 years; brothers Billy and Dean; sisters Mildred and Myra.

A private Mass of Christian Burial has been held at St. Therese Catholic Church. Due to Covid restrictions, the service was a private family celebration.

In memory of Lorraine and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Therese School Education Fund.
