George Roman Bieber, 84, a longtime North Dorr resident, died Thursday, March 31.
George was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Byron Center, the son of Bob and Florence (Homrich) Bieber. George was raised on the Beiber family farm in North Dorr. He later served his country as a paratrooper for the United States Army.
He held many positions while working for Terryberry Jewelry Company for 50 years. He also served with the Kent County Sheriff’s Reserve for more than 35 years. George accompanied the residential motorcade when President Gerald Ford would visit Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia (Grusnis); his children, Jeanine (Paul) Keanne, Norm (Marie) Bieber, and Annie Marshall; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his siblings, Kathy (Ken) Duimstra; Paul (Cathy) Bieber, Michelle Bieber; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Bernie Bieber, Anne Marie Bieber and Lucille Layne.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, with military honors to be accorded by the Kent County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Interment will be at Visitation Cemetery.
George’s family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6. A rosary will be held at 7:45 p.m. The family will also receive guests one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Memorial Contributions may be directed in George’s name to Christian Rest Home or St. Pius X Catholic Church.
