
Father Donald Wieber, formerly a senior priest at Sts. Cyril & Methodius at Gun Lake, died Tuesday, Jan 13.
Reverend Wieber, 95, was a senior priest of the Diocese of Kalamazoo. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Lansing on June 1, 1957, by The Most Rev. Henry E. Donnelly. He became a priest of the Diocese of Kalamazoo upon its founding on July 21, 1971.
Father Wieber began his ministry as an associate pastor, St. Mary Parish, Mt. Morris, Mich. He was later assigned to St. Monica Parish, Kalamazoo (1961-1965); St. Mary Parish, Jackson (1965-1968). He served as pastor in the Diocese of Kalamazoo at Immaculate Conception Parish, Hartford (1968-1974), St. Mary Parish, Marshall (1974-1981 ), St. Mark Parish, Niles (1981-1991), and St. Joseph Parish, Watervliet (1991-2006).
He retained senior priest status in 2006 and frequently assisted at SS Cyril and Methodius, Gun Lake (Wayland) celebrating his 60th anniversary to the priesthood in 2017 with the parish community.
The funeral arrangements will take place at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 545 N. Maple St., Fowler, Mich., on Sunday, Jan 18. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. with a scripture service at 6 p.m. at the church.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, with Rev. Edward Lohse presiding. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler.
