Allen Gifford Bennett, age 88, of Holland, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Zeeland Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1933, to Harry and Carrie (Lawton) Bennett. Al was a food broker for many years in the Grand Rapids area. On December 6, 1958, he married Sandy L. Strickfaden. Together Al and Sandy enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran in Dorr.
Allen is survived by his sons Mark (Wendy) Bennett, Chris (Stacey) Bennett; grandchildren Marcia Fletcher, Jennifer Reed, Erica (Wade) Belanger, Chelsea (Jacob) Hammer, Tabitha (Andrew) Hellenthal, Julia Bennett, Camryn Bennett; great-grandchildren Joey Reed, Colt Belanger, Hayden Belanger, Bennett Hammer, Berkley Hellenthal, and Kai Hellenthal.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Carrie Bennett; wife, Sandy L. Bennett; daughter, Lisa Bennett; brother, Orlie Bennett; sister, Marcia Lessein; and great-grandson, Maverick Hellenthal.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4125 18th St. The service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastors David Rockhoff and Stephen Otto officiating.
There will be a light luncheon to follow. Committal service and military honors will be held 1:30 p.m. at Burnips Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Circle of Friends at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
