Service Saturday for Margaret Myers, 102

Margaret Pauline Myers, of Allegan died in the early hours of April 30, just weeks after her 102nd birthday.

Born April 9, 1923, in Gobles, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Blanche (Haven) Healy.  Margaret was a 1941 graduate of Gobles High School.  In her earlier years, she was employed for 12 years at Friedlen’s and later for Punches Market.

She had many talents, including crocheting and knitting, and enjoyed baking treats for her neighbors who affectionately referred to her as “the cookie lady.” Margaret always looked forward to planting a large garden every summer and then canning her bounty to enjoy throughout the year.

She loved to travel with Bud and especially enjoyed participating in mystery trips with Brenner’s Tours.  Early on she and Paul took many trips to Colorado, which was also a favorite.

Margaret was an active member of Hopkins United Methodist Church.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Eileen (Lynn) Newell; stepson, Mark (Lisa) Myers; brother, Earl Healy; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Blanche; her first husband, Paul Weaver in 1985; her second husband, Carlos “Bud” Myers in 2002; her daughter, Lorraine (Jerry) Reynolds; and her siblings, Leslie Healy, Dorothea Healy and Marshall Healy.

The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2.  Her service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3. Margaret will be laid to rest immediately following at Poplar Hill Cemetery.
