Lorraine F. Calkins (Iciek), age 87, of Wayland, died Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Lorraine was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Hopkins. She received her teaching certificate from County Normal in Allegan. Her careers included teaching in a one-room school house, raising ten children, driving a semi tractor-trailer with her husband, and managing a convenience store.
Lorraine enjoyed simple pleasures such as conversing with family, friends and just about any one she met, doing the laundry, playing the piano, reading and flower gardening.  She loved writing and receiving letters and cards.  She had an extensive Christmas card list and her cards were usually the first received by many.

She was a member of several parishes during her life which included; St. Stanislaus of Hilliards, St. Therese of Wayland, Holy Trinity of Marshfield, Missouri and St. Sebastian of Byron Center.

She is survived by her children, Debra Calkins, Paul (Beth) Calkins, Peter Calkins, Charlotte (Ted) Pavilanis, Jane Calkins, Albert Calkins, Mary (Steve) Tillotson, A.J. Calkins, Mark Friskney and Justin (Brinda) Calkins; 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sisters Christine (Fred) Steffens, Betty (Ben) Wisnewski, Maxine (John) Gordon, Stephanie (Ed) Fletcher, brother Robert (Lynn) Iciek; in-laws Margaret Iciek, Mary Iciek, Bill Weick, Joy (Larry) DeBruyne, Margie Calkins Hines; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian 9408 Wilson Ave., SW, Byron Center,  Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10:30 a.m., when her family will receive visitors one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayland.

The family will also receive visitors Friday, Feb. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Vigil service being held at 7 p.m. at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, 4330 18th St., Dorr.
