Service TBD for WHS grad Donald Smith

Donald Smith, age 80 of Dorr / Wayland, died Tuesday, June 3.

Don was a loving husband and father. He graduated from Wayland in 1963. He was a decorated Vietnam combat veteran. Most of Don’s work career was spent as a meat cutter at Meijer. He loved fishing, gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Neoma Smith, and brother, Roger Smith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Smith; children Mike (Adrienne) Smith, Matt (Jody Babcock) Smith, Mark (Jennifer) Smith; grandchildren Ashley (Cam), Conner, Jeremy, Charlie, Jessica, Robert; great-grandchildren Lyla and Jack; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Frank Amatangelo) DeYoung; brother-in-law, Jerry (Candy) DeYoung; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Per Don’s wishes there will be no services. There will be a celebration of life at the family farm where Don and Nancy raised their family (1114 132nd Avenue in Wayland) on TBD date at TBD time; anyone who knew Don is welcome.

In honor of Don and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or DAV – Disabled American Veterans.
