Walter Fifelski, age 93, died Thursday, June 1. He was born Aug. 21, 1923 in Wayland, the son of Laudislaus and Frances (Zulawski) Fifelski.
Walter proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the World War II Pacific Conflict. He was a lifetime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
Walter’s many occupations required the infinite efforts of he and wife Marilynn; farmer, logger, and painter. He was well known as the founder of Fifelski Farm Buildings where many of his innovations and practical ideas live on at the family business now in its 62nd consecutive year.
He enjoyed the rewards of their hard work by spending time with family and friends in nature and outdoors. Planting and growing many types of flowers and trees. He loved “the bush” in Ontario at his lakeside cabin and exciting float plane adventures. He spent 20 years fishing the “Big Lake” off his boats.
Later generations were treated to his jokes and stories while fishing the backyard pond and going up north to deer hunt
He is survived by his children Susan (Ed) Haller, Karen (late Paul) Slater, Ellyn (Mike) Jackson, Danil (Katherine) Fifelski, David (Kimberlee) Fifelski, Duane (Angela) Fifelski, Donald (Linda) Fifelski; grandchildren Lisa, Vanessa, Justin, Melanie, Mike Jr., Benjamin, Jacob, Lacey, Sarah, Caleb, Kurt and Kara; great-grandchildren Jerry, Kyle, Grace, Brian, Braden, Emerey, Benjamin, Samantha, Reed, Eli, Emelia, Anika, Ava, Calvin, Hadley and Vivienne; sister-in-law Lucy Fifelski and his loyal dog, Lacey.
He was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife of 61 years, Marilynn. His parents; six brothers and six sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial to honor Walter’s life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church – 1871 136th Ave., Dorr. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Walter’s family will meet with friends and relatives from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary being held at 3:45 p.m. Monday at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home – Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St.
