The Rev. Williamphoto_20160129_WM0059402_0_obit_photo_20160129 Donald Dobson, aged 84, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Wayland, died Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Bill grew up in Wayland and after high school joined the Army, then worked in the real estate division for Marathon Oil Company for 20 years before following the call to become a pastor. He was pastor at Whitneyville Bible Church in Alto for 20 years, Lake Community Bible Church in Baldwin for 14 years, and preached at the campground he stayed at in Florida during the winters until days before he died.
Though he enjoyed many activities, such as golfing, hunting and fishing, he said his greatest joy came from being a pastor.
He is survived by his wife of four years, Peggy Edgar Dobson; children, Bill (Nicky) Dobson, Terri (Don) Lenartz, Craig (Jennilee) Dobson, Tim (Brenda) Dobson; daughter-in-law, Jolynne Dobson; step-children Craig (Paula) Edgar, Doug (Debbie) Edgar, Brad, (Erika) Edgar; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Shirley Dobson and Sharon (Mel) Spencer.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Juanita, son Kirk, step-son Todd Edgar, and sister Phyllis Freeman.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb., 1, at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Chapel in Wayland. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Whitneyville Bible Church in Alto with Rev. Dennis Ross and Rev. Bob Sponable officiating. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Wayland, with full military honors.
