Jim Kaczanowski of Dorr died Friday at the age of 87.
Jim was born and raised in Dorr, attending St. Stanislaus School and graduating from Wayland High School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1954-56.
He worked at Fifelski Market in Dorr and for the United States Postal Service for 37 years. Jim was a member of St. Therese Church in Wayland where he served as an usher and on the finance team. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954 and joined the Hilliards Knights of Columbus after service.
He was a charter member of the Dorr American Legion Post 127 and an honor guard member. Jim also served on the Allegan County Community Mental Health Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kaczanowski; son, Craig Kaczanowski; stepchildren Michele (Paul) Rock, Mike Walton, Melissa Walton, Karen Jean, and Rick (Deb) Jean; grandchildren Melissa (David) Pierce, Brian Jean, Brandon Jean, Dallas Roney, Dustin Roney, Nathan (Leta) Walton, Sonja (Jim) Zanzig; several great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly; special nieces Beth Kaczanowski and Sue (Mark) Steffes; special friends Bob (Annette) Dever, Bill (Faye) Howe, and Norm (Shirley) DeVries.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jan Kaczanowski; parents John and Agnes Kaczanowski; brother, Jerry Kaczanowski; and sister, Barb Kaczanowski.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home – Dorr Chapel (4330 18th St. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at the funeral home with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
Guests are invited to join the family at the Dorr American Legion Post 127, 4310 18th St., for lunch following the service.
