John “Johnny” Gurney Hines, age 25, of Dorr, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Johnny was always making people laugh, no matter how his day was going.  He was a talented artist and loved animals.   This tragic loss will not take away the fond memories that Johnny’s family and friends hold of him.

Johnny is survived by his parents, Michelle (James) Stone, Ryan Hines; his biological father, Tom Bartell; his brother, David Hines; his sister, Alainna Hines; niece, Madelynn Endres; his grandparents, Linda Mackey, Jerry Mackey, Roy and Sonia Hines, Donna DeWeerd; close aunts, Nichole Salski and Tonya Mackey; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his close friend, P.J. Steffen.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Terry Bartell.

A memorial service will be held 6:30 PM Friday, Feb. 10, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Wayland, 312 N. Main St. in Wayland. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

In honor of Johnny, contributions may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or to an animal shelter of your choice.
