Allen R. Dennis, 69, of Wayland, died Friday, Jan. 7, at his home.
Allen was born Jan. 12, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Lee Roy and Helen (Berger) Barr.
Allen served his country in the U.S. Air Force stateside during the Vietnam conflict. Owner and operator of Rebel Trans., Wyoming, he was a successful small business owner for the Landstar Franchise for over 25 years. Allen earned several accolades during his tenure with Landstar, including the Executive Circle and Diamond Award. Allen was semi-retired.
In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors and golfing, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a long-time member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Allen loved dogs, especially his Labradors.
He is survived by a large family including his five children, Chad Dennis of Paragould, AR; Jason (Jessica) Dennis of Kentwood, Renee Dennis of Fremont, OH; Kevin (Morgan) Dennis of Plainwell, Ryan (Ashley) Dennis, of Otsego, and a stepson Anthony Weaver of Otsego; six grandchildren Cody and Brandon Dennis, Brandon and Bronson Graves, Josie Dennis, and Charlie Dennis; his mother Helen Barr; siblings Janet (Michael) Enfield, and Randy (Kelly) Dennis, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Allen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Dennis; his stepfather Austin Barr; and Grandfather Richard “Turner” Dennis.
Family and friends may visit with Allen’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Winkel Funeral Home, 207 E. Allegan St., Otsego. A funeral will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, with Pastor Bryan Tema officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
