Chauncey William “Bill” Smith died Friday, Feb. 16. He was 95.

He was born Feb. 28, 1928, to Clayton and Ruby Smith of Wayland.

Bill was a graduate of Wayland High School. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a proud veteran. He made a career of truck driving.

Bill is survived by wife of 32 years, Barbara (Bair) Smith; son, Gregg Smith; daughters Leslie (Gregg) St. John and Andrea (Lonny) Cruff; stepson, Randy (Linda) Densmore; stepdaughters Robin (Joe) Myers and Rochelle (Ron) Slachta; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Bernard and Raymond Smith; sister, Ellenrose Palmer; first wife of 38 years, Edythe (Loucks) Smith; and son, Eric Smith.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8 at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, 190 – 100th St. SE, Byron Center, with visitation 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Hospice in memory of Bill.
