Russell James Miner, 81, of Allegan, died Sunday at the Allegan County Medical Care Community.
Born Sept. 25, 1936, in Hopkins, he was the son of the late Darl James Miner and Goldie F. (Commans) Miner and was the husband of Patricia Jean (McGuire) Miner. Mr. Miner was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was a boxer and played on the Army traveling baseball team. After his time in the service, he went to work for JC Penney and Company, Rockwell International, Prince and Company and James River Paper before retiring.
Mr. Miner loved spending time with the Allegan Snowmobile Club. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and following professional boxing and was a Civil War enthusiast. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Besides his wife of more than 58 years, Patricia, he s survived by his children, Darl (Dahn) Miner and Cherri Miner; siblings, Delbert (Bonnie) Miner and Mary (Harvey) Norris; eight grandchildren, Jayme (Tina) Johnson, Sarah Johnson (TJ Ptak), Kimberly Miner, Kyle (Kassandra) Miner, Tyler (Ashley) Miner, Eric Miner, Vincent Gulliver and Rachel Gulliver; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Russell Miner; and brothers, Kenneth Miner, Gilbert Miner and Jerry Miner.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 6, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 6 until 8 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
