Laurie Ybema, 54, of Hopkins died Wednesday evening, Sept. 29,

Laurie Denise (Pessman) Ybema was born on October 5, 1966 in Morrison, Illinois. She was educated at Morrison Community Schools, Mount Saint Clare College, and Dordt College. Laurie’s passions in life were her grandchildren, church life, homeschool educating her daughters, gardening, and walking outside.

She is survived by her husband, Marty; her children, Adrianna Ybema, Karrie and Keith Kloosterman, Jonalyn and Michael DeJong, Grace Ybema, and Elizabeth Ybema; her grandchildren, Noah Kloosterman and Hannah DeJong; her parents, Arlyn and Jane Pessman; her sisters, Brenda and Allen Schaver, Sally and Tom Byrnes; her mother-in-law, Ann Ybema; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steven and Patty Ybema, Janeen and Rev. John Klompien, Arthur and Julie Ybema, Charles and Kelly Ybema; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant child, two infant grandchildren, and her father-in-law, John Ybema.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Trinity United Reformed Church (7350 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Caledonia) and Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 10 to 10:45 a.m.prior to the service, which will begin at 11 a.m., and will be officiated by Laurie’s brother-in-law, Rev. John Klompien. The service will be live-streamed by visiting www.trinityurc.net and clicking on “Live Stream.” Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins.
