Jan E. Chapin, age 50, died Friday, Feb. 10, after a nine-month battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 9, 1967, in Torrance, Calif., Jan enjoyed riding his motorcycle, driving his Camaro and fishing, as well as coaching children’s sports. He could always be found Sunday afternoons cheering for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jan is survived by his wife Janice; his children Stacey (Steven) Gum and Justin Chapin; grandchildren Lydia, Derek, Alayna and Wyatt; his mother Betty Chapin; his sisters Vicky Chapin and Judy (Ronnie) Runnels of Arkansas; grandmother Sylvia (John) Berry; mother and father-in-law Kay (Lee) Newell and Chuck (Cheryl) Schoenborn; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his close friends Brett and Julie Sloan.

Jan was preceded in death by his father, Ronald, and his grandparents Ray and Alta Chapin.

Jan’s family will meet with friends and relatives from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, Dorr Chapel, 4430 18th St.. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15,at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 4125 18th St., Dorr. Interment will be in Dorr Cemetery.
