Donald J. Solomon died Saturday, Nov.23, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo at age 84.

He was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Hastings, the son of Russell and Lydia (Marsh) Solomon. Don owned and operated Solomon Livestock Trucking. In his free time Don enjoyed running his dairy farm, volunteering as a 4-H leader and working with draft horses.

Don was a member of Farm Bureau and the Martin Methodist Church for 30 years. On June 29, 1956,, at Wayland Methodist Church he married Margie Miller who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Debra (Jeff) Smith of Bradley, Donald Solomon of Dorr, Jeanne (Doug) DeMann and Nancy (Jeff) Ekkel both of Martin; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; one great-great-granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Solomon; siblings, Sandra Ehmry, Marcia  Schondelmeyer and Janet Geukes along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Solomon; great-grandson, Caleb Smith and uncle and aunt, Curt (Nellie) Solomon.

Friends may visit with Don’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov.26, at the Martin Methodist Church, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, with Pastor Sean Kidd officiating. Private family burial will take place at Hicks Cemetery in Martin at a later time.
