Owen Johnson, age 89, of Caledonia, died Saturday, Feb. 22.
Owen was a loyal husband, a faithful father and fun grandpa. Owen was a Korean conflict veteran, serving in the 1950s. He often spoke respectfully of his grandson Nolan, who is in the Army.
Owen was a faithful ministry helper, and served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and an AWANA leader. He was a giving person, helping out children and grandchildren with college, cars, and finances. Owen liked to carve and enjoyed showing grandchildren the art of carving.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, and bird watching. He loved the lake and assisted his children and grandchildren in learning to ski and boat. Many times he pulled children on tubes and water apparatus behind the boat.
He liked to listen to his children, grandchildren, and wife play their instruments. Owen was a dedicated grandfather and bragged up his grandkids and attended their plays, musicals and concerts.
Owen is survived by his children Sherri Johnson, James (Kathy) Johnson, and Jack (Celena) Johnson; grandchildren David (Jessica) Johnson, Holly (Sam) Fearnow, Michael Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Jena (Tim) Keckler, Aran Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Nolan (Kaitlyn) Johnson, Teelamae Johnson, and Teaera (fiancé Robert) Johnson; six great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Wood; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by Edna Mae, his wife of 66 years; siblings Myrtle Triemsema, Irving Johnson Jr., Fern Randall, Wayne Johnson, Joyce Johnson, and David Johnson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Green Lake Calvary Church, 608 – 145th St., Caledonia, with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday.
