James E. Wyatt, age 85, of Wayland, died Tuesday, April 12.

Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in Germany. He enjoyed being a police officer for the Grand Rapids Police Department, as well as the safety director for General Motors. Most of all, Jim cherished spending time with his family.

He was born to Merle and Bernice Wyatt (deceased) on Dec. 4, 1936, in Escanaba. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis; their son, Todd; his sister, Margorie Ann Apelegren; brothers, Bill and Lee Wyatt.

He is survived by his children, Fawn and Richard Postma, Jim and Jackie Wyatt; grandchildren, Luke, Derek and Karmen Postma, Peyton and Logan Wyatt, and Reghan; sister, Donna Martin; brother, Bruce and Shirley Wyatt; extended friends, Drew and Justine Born, Dan and Allie Maring, and Dr. Tammy Born.

Visitation and funeral both will be held at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, 190 – 100th St. SE, Byron Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 18. The funeral will be held at noon Tuesday, April 19, with a brief visitation prior to the service from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Pastors Cal Compagner and Tim Holwerda will officiate. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Jim can be made to Faith Hospice or Caledonia American Legion Post 305.
