Services set Saturday in Caledonia for Susan Lake

Susan Leslee Lake, age 72, died Sunday, Sept. 12.

Susan loved her family, especially her grandkids. One of her passions in life was taking care of others, which she expressed through cooking and planning numerous dinner parties for her family. She took everyone into her home and let them make it their own.

Susan enjoyed gardening and landscaping and took pride in her work. In college, she was a seamstress and throughout life she would continue to sew for her family. She received her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and taught high school math. She was also a tutor for her grandkids, helping them with their homework.

Susan had an extroverted and assertive personality and she was an advocate for her family, making sure things were done right. She was very detail oriented, which was reflected in her other career choice as an insurance adjuster. She was also very artistic and enjoyed arts and crafts, science projects, party decorations, and wedding planning.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dan Lake; children Lisa (Glenn) Gast, Lindsey Lake; grandchildren Kayli Lake, Kyle Gast, Katara Gast; sister, Barbara Blacha; and lifelong friends Julie (Gary) Chapman and Stephanie (Mike) Riley.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Vally Ladwig and her son, Mark Lake.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 8436 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18,  at St. Paul Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Susan will be laid to rest at North Shores Memory Gardens.
